What are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are the subtle, aromatic and volatile botanical liquids extracted from the flowers, seeds, leaves, stems, bark, bushes, shrubs, trees and roots of plants using a variety of extraction methods.

Essential oils are powerful God given food based medicine. According to ancient documentation, essential oils were used by kings and queens as medicine and were often more costly than gold and silver.

Essential oils are one of nature’s best kept secrets. They have certain therapeutic properties which can be used to promote health and well-being that always leave you with an experience; an experience of a testimony or even a miracle.

Essential oils are highly concentrated oils with loads of healing compounds. The natural oils in plants protect plants from insects, shield plants from harsh environment, helping them adapt to their surroundings. Similarly, by taking essential oils you are harnessing the protective and healing powers of plants, you are able to adapt to your surroundings and you are shielded from environmental diseases and infections. Truly, essential oils are the most potent form of plant based medicine.

The healing power of essential oil is so powerful that by using essential oils and having them in your medicine cabinets, many people will be able to stay away from pharmaceutical drugs that are full of synthetic chemicals and have dangerous side effects. Why should one continue to use these synthetic chemicals when God has provided us with the food based medicine of essential oils that are even more powerful?

Essential oils are God’s own natural plant medicine and man-made medicine cannot supersede. No wonder Oregano oil is the strongest natural antibiotics known to man and is now widely used all around the world as a natural alternative to antibiotics.

History of Essential Oil

Essential oils have been used by many cultures around the world for centuries. Their uses varied between cultures from religious purposes to restoring health to the people.

History have shown that the Egyptians used aromatic oils as early as 4500 B.C.E. They became renowned for their knowledge of cosmetology, ointments and aromatic oils. The Egyptians distinguished oils to priesthood, only the priests were allowed to use aromatic oils, as they were regarded as necessary to be at one with the Gods. The Pharaohs had their own special blends of essential oils for meditation, love and even war.

Essential oils were referenced in the Bible 264 times and 33 different types of oils are mentioned. These oils were used by kings and Queens; the Pharaohs, Moses and other rulers as well as Cleopatra who was famous for her beauty and charm, and owned the first spa where she used essential oils for her personal beauty treatments.

Essential Oils – the Bible Anointing Oil

In the book of Exodus God recommended a specific formula when the Lord refers to holy anointing oil. This formula recommended by God was used to anoint priests and kings. This holy anointing oil was also used when someone visited the priest for healing. The oil was poured onto their head and they were prayed for, this oil was known to have healing properties.

Numbers 16 tells us how Moses instructed the high priest Aaron to burn oils as incense to stop a plague. These oils have powerful anti-bacterial properties that protected the people. Other healing oils frequently used during the biblical times include frankincense, hyssop, spikenard and cedarwood.

The practice of the use of essential oils began to spread among the people. The medicinal wisdom of the Egyptians were taken over and absorbed by the ancient Greeks – and the most well-known physician of that time – Hippocrates (c.460 – 377 BC) who utilized the use of essential oils to enhance massage techniques in treating his patients a few centuries before the coming of Christ.

Gift to Baby Jesus – Frankincense

Then Bible also let us know that the 3 wise men gave the infant King of Israel gifts of gold to honor his royalty, frankincense as a perfume, and myrrh for anointing oil. Other sources claim that the wise men from the Far East were actually being more practical by giving the baby Jesus these precious, costly items that could double as potential medical remedies. During that time frankincense was used to support the immune system and fight infection which could heal a sick child. Myrrh was known to help healing after pregnancy and support hormonal health.

The essential oil techniques from Greece traveled to Rome who favored aromatherapy and fragrances. After the fall of the Roman Empire, Persia picked up these healing techniques and perfected the essential oil distillation process. The dark ages almost buried this wisdom with a different approach.

Beautifully, the Renaissance resurrected herbal medicine and physicians such as Paracelsus challenged his medical colleagues with testimonials of successfully treating life-threatening issues using natural therapy. Rene Maurice Gattefosse, a french chemist was the first to coin the term “aromatherapy” in 1937. He became interested in essential oils after a 1910 accident where he badly burned his hand. Gattefosse used the first available salve in his laboratory, a pure, undiluted lavender oil compound that not only immediately eased the pain, but healed his injury without infection or scar. Dr. Jean Valet used essential oils to treat injured soldiers in World War II, taking a clue from Gattefosse’s work. This led to Marguerite Maury being the first person to “individually prescribe” essential oil combinations using a Tibetan technique for back massage that treated nerve endings along the spine.

Today, essential oils are still used as medicine by “kings” and “priests” as well as by doctors, aromatherapist, nutritionists, wellness advocates and used in various homes all over the world.

The penetrating characteristic of essential oils greatly enhances their ability to be effective. Essential oils will penetrate into the body when applied to the skin. An essential oil placed on the foot will be distributed to every cell in the body in 21 minutes. They will penetrate a finger or toe nail to treat fungus underneath and greatly penetrate the skin around your pelvic region to enhance fertility and treat fertility conditions.

Essential Oils and Fertility

The use of essential oils has been in practice for more than a thousand years to stimulate the central nervous system and relieve stress and tension in the body. More and more couples are falling prey to infertility every day due to stress and stagnant lifestyles, this results to a rigorous treatment involving hormones and other medication which causes a lot of stress to the mind and body.

The processes of trying to conceive causes immense anxiety and frustration which only grows with time and this worsens the hormonal imbalance and further reduces a woman’s chances of conception.

The underlying cause of infertility in some women is their anxiety to become pregnant and their disappointment when they get a negative pregnancy test result month after month, this is where essential oil come in. Essential oils are beneficial for relieving tension and anxiety, helping you relax; this in itself is likely to have a positive effect on your fertility.

Essential oil does not interfere other fertility treatment, they complement herbal therapy or any other fertility treatment that you are undergoing especially for women that are stressed and anxious becoming pregnant, they can bring about chemical changes in your body as they react with hormones and enzymes. Essential oils can be used in various ways to cause a positive effect on your fertility; reducing stress, improving endocrine function, supporting in hormonal balance, reducing inflammation, reducing pain, boosting immune system, supporting reproductive health and promoting natural health in your everyday life.

How Does Essential Oils Increase Fertility?

Pure and highly concentrated essential oil has the ability to increase, stimulate, and regulate certain hormones; these plants are known to be phytohormonal which means they contain plant hormones that mimic some of our own hormones.

There are different hormones responsible for our ability to conceive; take a look at some of these hormones:

Estrogen: A female steroid hormone that is produced by the ovaries. It influences the course of ovulation in the monthly menstrual cycle, and helps control and guide sexual development.
Progesterone: Is the principal hormone that prepares the uterus (the womb) to receive and sustain the fertilized egg. It is often referred to as the pregnancy hormone, it plays a key role in fetal development, the menstrual cycle, cervical mucus, the onset of labor, breast development, and helps prevent pre-term birth.
Follicle-stimulating Hormone (FSH): A hormone secreted by the anterior pituitary gland which promotes the formation and maturation of ovaries and sperm.
Luteinizing Hormone: Regulate ovulation in women and the production of testosterone in men.
Prolactin: A hormone that promotes milk production. Shown to have more than 300 functions in the human body such as reproductive, metabolic, regulation of fluids and the immune system as well as behavioural functions.
Gonadotropin-releasing Hormone: A hormone produced by the hypothalamus that signals the anterior pituitary gland to begin secreting luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone.
Testosterone: Produced by the Leydig cells in testes in men and by the ovaries in women and is the primary male sex hormone.
Oxytocin: Also called “love hormone” an important player in social behaviour including sexual arousal, orgasm, bonding, recognition, trust, and anxiety.

Essential oils work to repair cell’s receptor sites. Receptor sites are proteins that are on the surface of each cell. Every cell in your body has thousands of locations on its surface that serve as “mini” sense organs, called receptor sites. They act as little receivers (or ears) that listen to the messages of the chemical messenger molecules as they float in the intercellular fluid surrounding every cell.

Essential oil works in different ways. When essential oil is applied on the surface of the skin, it absorb and excrete substances with small molecular structures and float in the intercellular fluid surrounding every cell sending out messages to where they will be most beneficial. The oils are then absorbed in to our skin and underlying tissues and taken throughout the body through our blood and this in turn results to healing.

Essential oils placed anywhere on the body are “transdermal” which means they can actually pass through your skin into your circulatory system and cells.

Evening Primrose Oil

Evening primrose oil is extracted from seeds of the evening primrose plant, a wildflower that grows in eastern and central North America. Its properties are Anti-aggregatory, anti-atherogenic, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-proliferative, anti-thrombotic, vasodilator.

Evening primrose is mainly used today for the production of its oil, which has loads of therapeutic properties. Some studies have shown that it can help reduce PMS symptoms, increase cervical mucus, as well as reducing inflammation due to its high content of the omega-6 essential fatty acids (EFA’s), Linoleic Acid (LA) and Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA). According to the University of Maryland Medical Center1, evening primrose oil is one of the main sources of GLA.

Linoleic Acid (LA) is needed for prostaglandin E and Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA) is needed to synthesize prostaglandin E. Prostaglandins are hormone- -like compounds that help to control proper cell growth and control the regulation of hormones in the body system.

Evening primrose oil has been used by healthcare practitioners for ages to increase cervical mucus which is necessary for speedy sperm movement through the cervix when planning for conception. This oil maintains a woman’s reproductive system and is a favorite fertility support for women.

Evening primrose oil helps women produce fertile quality cervical fluid, or “egg white” cervical mucus that is fertile, thinner, watery, and stretchy. This type of cervical mucus easily supports sperm movement through the uterus into the fallopian tube, and to the egg for fertilization. One beneficial factor of fertile cervical mucus is that it helps sperm stay alive and move freely inside the uterus and fallopian tube for up to five days, and this enables conception to take place, even if ovulation occurs days after intercourse.

Evening primrose oil does not only support the right level of cervical mucus, it also helps a woman’s cervical mucus to be consistent from cycle to cycle, making conception easier and quicker.

Our evening primrose oil is pressed at a low temperature to obtain pure, natural, virgin oil, without the use of solvents, fillers or preservatives.
